INTERSTATE DRIVER, KRIS EDNEY NAMED AMSA "SUPER VAN OPERATOR OF THE YEAR"

(Springfield, VA) Kristopher K. Edney, van operator for Interstate Van Lines, received the relocation industry's top driver award at the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) conference in Tucson, Arizona on March 31. Edney was named "AMSA Super Van Operator of the Year for 2001," the industry's most prestigious award presented annually to only five individuals nationwide.

Edney, an Interstate employee since April 1995, was nominated based upon his impeccable safety record, his exemplary work history and his position as a strong role model for his peers and the youth of the community. During the past five years, Edney has been recognized for his achievements in the areas of: commercial vehicle operation, excellence in log book documentation, zero accident/incident involvement, customer service, good Samaritan acts, community involvement and displaying a positive attitude toward his work and peers.

Awarded Interstate's prestigious "Driver of the Year Award" in both 1999 and 2000, Edney has received countless awards during his tenure at Interstate. He was named Interstate's "Driver of the Month" 17 times since his career as a driver for Interstate began. He also received Interstate's Safe Driving Award for the fourth time in 2000.

An active participant in the "Trucker Buddy" program, Edney maintains close ties to students at four elementary schools in Northern Virginia - Kings Park, Bucknell and Sangster Elementary Schools and the Burke School for the Mentally Challenged. He corresponds regularly with the students and even provided each student with a specially designed t-shirt featuring his truck -- financing the purchase from his own funds. Edney extols the importance of doing well in school to all of his trucker buddies - even promising to take the t-shirts back if the students don't complete their homework. As Bucknell Elementary School fourth grade teacher, Deborah Easter shares: "His talks to our students encompass geography, math and life lessons, too. He always stresses being good students and having work habits they can be proud of. He is our own "gentle giant" talking to as many as forty students at a time keeping them spellbound."

Edney receives numerous commendation letters from customers for his professionalism and quality service. Additionally, he maintains a very positive image and presence in the community. In 1999, he received Fairfax County Public School's "Blue Ribbon Award" for his mentoring efforts in helping to improve the reading, writing and speaking skills of the county's youth.
