Interstate Transitions To ISO 9001:2000

The ISO standard is an internationally recognized quality management system (QMS) criterion developed by the International Organization for Standardization. It has been established for all companies and organizations regardless of mission, industry, nationality, size, ownership or any other designation. To be certified to the standard, Interstate must institute a QMS with documented procedures in every facet of the business that affect customer service. These procedures outline such issues as training, purchasing, preventative/corrective action, etc. and the steps taken to provide customers the promised services. ISO 9001:2000 certification, through an independent third party, British Standards Institution, Inc., reinforces to customers that Interstate operates a QMS in accordance with the ISO 9001 standard.

Interstate was originally certified in August 2000. All ISO 9002:1994 registered companies were allotted a three-year transition period to comply with the new standards; Interstate reached this goal ahead of schedule, in May 2003, and has received the new certificate of registration. The new standard is more customer-focused and places more emphasis on top management. It also requires organizations to set quality objectives and work towards continual improvement.
